TU holds documentary screening about US rape kit backlog

With her work as President of Joyful Heart, Hargitay began to uncover the thousands upon thousands of untested rape kits currently filling up police departments and crime labs in the US. “I Am Evidence” is Hargitay’s effort to expose this negligence on the part of the criminal justice system, and give sexual assault victims a chance to share their stories. The film screening concluded with a panel of regional and national leaders in sexual assault prevention.

Video: Local rape victim, lawmaker express need to test rape kits after screening of ‘I Am Evidence’

It was an emotional screening of the documentary “I Am Evidence” inside the Lucas Theatre on Monday night during the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Sitting next to Adlesic during her Q&A after the movie’s screening, was Georgia State Representative Scott Holcomb who played a key role in passing Senate Bill 304 in 2016–to combat the more than 10,000 rape kits that sat untested across the state.
